NGC 2547 - ist ein junger und heller offener Sternhaufen im Sternbild Vela. In unserem Mosaik, bestehend aus 2 Segmenten - liegt er fast am oberen Bildrand. Er beinhaltet etwa 100 Sterne, die nur zwischen 20 bis 30 Millionen Jahre alt sind. Er ist etwa 1.500 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt.
Im südlichen Teil des Bildes dominieren die roten H-II Filamente, die ein Teil des Gum Nebels - Resultate der Supernovaexplosion der Vela Supernova vor etwa 10.000 Jahren.
Object description
NGC 2547 - is a young, bright open star cluster in the constellation Vela. In our mosaic - composed of two segments - it lies near the top edge of the image. It contains about 100 stars that are only between 20 and 30 million years old. It is about 1,500 light-years away from the solar system.
The southern part of the image is dominated by red H-II filaments, which are part of the Gum Nebula-the result of the Vela supernova explosion that occurred about 10,000 years ago.
