NGC 2467 - An open star cluster and its colorful surroundings in the constellation Puppis
NGC 2467 NGC 2467 ist ein noch sehr junger, offener Sternhaufen im Sternbild Puppis. Bestandteile von NGC 2467 sind die offenen Sternhaufen Haffner 18 und Haffner 19. Der Sternhaufen ist etwa 4.500 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt. Er beinhaltet etwa 50 Sterne und wird nach Trumpler der Klasse I 3 m n zugeordnet. Er ist umgeben aus einer Hülle aus Gas und Staub, aus dem die Sterne entstanden sind. Die energiereiche ultraviolette Strahlung der jungen Sterne regt das umliegende Wasserstoffgas zum Leuchten an. Das Objekt wurde am 9. Dezember 1784 von William Herschel entdeckt.
Das große Emissionsnebelgebiet wird als Sh2-311 klassifiziert. Der Kernbereich ist als LBN 1066 bezeichnet, im inneren steht der Sternhaufen Haffner 18. Nordöstlich von LBN 1066 liegt eine kleine, fast kreisförmige H-II Region. Im Zentrum steht der offene Sternhaufen Haffner 19. Detailliertere Informationen der ESO sind hier zu finden.
Object description
NGC 2467 is a very young open star cluster in the constellation Puppis. Components of NGC 2467 are the open star clusters Haffner 18 and Haffner 19. The star cluster is about 4,500 light years away from the solar system. It contains about 50 stars and is assigned to class I 3 m n according to Trumpler. It is surrounded by a shell of gas and dust from which the stars were formed. The energetic ultraviolet radiation from the young stars excites the surrounding hydrogen gas to glow. The object was discovered by William Herschel on December 9, 1784. .

The large emission nebula region
is classified as Sh2-311. The core region is
designated LBN 1066, in the interior is the star cluster Haffner 18. Northeast
of LBN 1066 is a small, almost circular H-II region. In the center is the open
star cluster Haffner 19. More detailed information
