Objektbeschreibung:

IC 2391 und NGC 2669 IC 2391 - auch als Omicron Velorum Cluster bezeichnet, ist ein galaktischer heller offener Sternhaufen im Sternbild Vela. Der Sternenhaufen ist etwa 500 Lichtjahre von der Erde entfernt und wird nach Trumler der Klasse II 3 p zugeordnet und beinhaltet um die 30 Sterne. Sein scheinbarer Winkeldurchmesser beträgt etwa 1 Grad, über die Entfernung ergibt sich ein wahrer Durchmesser von 10 Lichtjahren.

Östlich von IC 2391 steht NGC 2669. Mit einer Entfernung von etwa 3.400 Lichtjahren ist er deutlich weiter als IC 2391 vom Sonnensystem entfernt. Er beinhaltet ungefähr 40 Sterne und wird nach Trumpler der Klasse II 3 p zugeordnet. NGC 2669 wurde am 11. April 1834 von John Herschel entdeckt.

Überlagert ist NGC 2669 von einem weiteren offenen Sternhaufe mit der Bezeichnung Van der Berg Hagen 52, zu dem keine weiteren Informationen zu finden sind. Zu vermuten ist, dass die helleren Sterne zu NGC 2669 und die leuchtschwächeren zu Van der Berg Hagen 52.

Object description

IC 2391 and NGC 2669 IC 2391 - also called Omicron Velorum Cluster, is a galactic bright open star cluster in the constellation Vela. The cluster is about 500 light-years away from Earth and is assigned to class II 3 p according to Trumler and contains about 30 stars. Its apparent angular diameter is about 1 degree, over the distance it has a true diameter of 10 light-years.

East of IC 2391 is NGC 2669, with a distance of about 3,400 lightyears it is much further away from the solar system than IC 2391. It contains about 40 stars and is classified as class II 3 p by Trumpler. NGC 2669 was discovered by John Herschel on April 11, 1834.

NGC 2669 is overlaid by another open cluster named Van der Berg Hagen 52, for which no further information can be found. It can be assumed that the brighter stars belong to NGC 2669 and the fainter ones to Van der Berg Hagen 52.
