The open star cluster Pismis 19, NGC 5617 and the planetary nebula PK 315-00.3 (He 2-111)
Zu Pismis 19 sind nur wenig Informationen verfügbar. Der Sternhaufen hat einen scheinbaren Durchmesser von nur 2 Bogenminuten und die hellsten Sterne sind etwa 12. Größenklasse. Auffällig ist die gelblich-rötliche Farbe der Sterne. Sie ist auf eine hohe interstellare Absorption durch davor liegendem Staub zurückzuführen. Pismis 19 hat eine Entfernung von etwa 8000 Lichtjahren zum Sonnensystem. Sein Alter wird mit etwa 800 Millionen Jahre angegeben, der Sternhaufen ist also etwa 100 mal älter als NGC 5617, nordwestlich von Pismis 19.
Paris Maria Pismis war eine Astronomin armenischer Abstammung, die in Mexiko über offene Sternhaufen geforscht und einen entsprechenden Katalog veröffentlicht hat.
Weiterhin zeigt das Bild den offenen Sternhaufen NGC 5617 und den bipolaren planetarischen Nebel Henize 2-111 (PK 315.0-00.3) Der waagerechte, bläulicher Streifen, der mitten durch das Bild läuft, ist ein Reflex des hellen Sterns Alpha Centauri. Object description
Only little information is available about Pismis 19. The cluster has an apparent diameter of only 2 arcminutes and the brightest stars are about 12th magnitude. The yellowish-reddish colour of the stars is prominent. It is due to a high interstellar absorption of dust in the foreground. Pismis 19 has a distance of about 8.000 light years to the solar system. Its age is given as about 800 million years, so the cluster is about 100 times older than NGC 5617, northwest of Pismis 19.
Paris Maria Pismis was an astronomer of Armenian origin who did research on open star clusters in Mexico and published a corresponding catalogue.
The image also shows the open star cluster NGC 5617 and the bipolar planetary nebula Henize 2-111 (PK 315.0-00.3). The horizontal bluish stripe running through the middle of the image is a reflection of the bright star Alpha Centauri. An overview image of the entire region is shown here.
