Melotte 25 - the Hyades in the constellation of Taurus
Die Hyaden (Melotte 25) sind ein offener Sternhaufen im Sternbild Stier. Zusammen mit den Plejaden (Messier 45) bilden sie das so genannte "goldene" Tor der Ekliptik. Der Sternhaufen steht in einer Entfernung von nur 150 Lichtjahren zum Sonnensystem und ist dementsprechend gut erforscht. Das Alter der Sterne wird auf etwa 625 Millionen Jahre geschätzt. Er beinhaltet ungefähr 350 Sterne.
Der helle Aldebaran selbst gehört allerdings nicht zu den Hyaden, sondern steht mit einer Entfernung von 67 Lichtjahren weit vor den Hyaden. Auffällig in unserem Bild sind zwei extrem rote Sterne: Es sind W Tauri und V 718 Tauri, beides sind langperiodische Veränderliche mit langen Perioden.

Object description: The Hyades (Melotte 25) are an open star cluster in the constellation Taurus. Together with the Pleiades (Messier 45) they form the so-called "golden" gate of the ecliptic. The star cluster stands at a distance of only 150 light years from the solar system and is accordingly well studied. The age of the stars is estimated at about 625 million years. It contains about 350 stars. The bright Aldebaran itself, however, does not belong to the Hyades, but stands at a distance of 67 light years far ahead of the Hyades.
