The surrounding area of the Tarantula Nebula - NGC 2070—in the Large Magellanic Cloud
NGC 2070 - unser Bild zeigt den Tarantelnebel NGC 2070 (30 Doradus) und dessen Umgebung in der großen Magellanschen Wolke. Er ist eines der größten bekannten Sternentstehungsgebiete in der lokalen Gruppe und im Kernbereich befinden sich einige der massereichsten Sterne, die den Astronomen bekannt sind. Die Region liegt etwa 165.000 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von annähernd 2.000 Lichtjahre.
Eine monochrome Weitwinkelansicht der Region zeigen wir hier und ein großes, hoch aufgelöstes Mosaik mit vielen detaillierten Einzelobjekten der großen Magellanschen Wolke hier.

description NGC 2070 - Our image shows the Tarantula Nebula NGC 2070 (30 Doradus) and its surroundings in the Large Magellanic Cloud. It is one of the largest known star-forming regions in the Local Group, and its core contains some of the most massive stars known to astronomers. The region is located about 165,000 light-years from the solar system and has a diameter of approximately 2,000 light-years.
