LDN 43 - The Cosmic Bat
LDN 43 - unser Bild zeigt den Dunkelnebel LDN 43 im Sternbild Ophiuchus. Auf Grund seiner markanten Form ist er auch als der "kosmische Fledermausnebel" bekannt. Er taucht aus der Dunkelheit des interstellaren Raums auf und seine dichten Wolken aus kosmischem Staub verdecken die Hintergrundsterne und erzeugen eine geheimnisvolle Silhouette, die an eine fliegende Fledermaus erinnert. Er liegt etwa 1.400 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt und ist ein aktives Sternentstehungsgebiet.
Object description
LDN 43 - our image shows the dark nebula LDN 43 in the constellation Ophiuchus. Because of its distinctive shape, it is also known as the "Cosmic Bat Nebula." It emerges from the darkness of interstellar space, and its dense clouds of cosmic dust obscure the background stars, creating a mysterious silhouette reminiscent of a flying bat. It lies about 1,400 light-years from the solar system and is an active star-forming region.
