Objektbeschreibung:

NGC 3677 - ist ein heller offener Sternhaufen im Sternbild Zentaurus. Er beinhaltet etwa 100 Sterne, wird nach Trumpler der Klasse I 1 p zugeordnet und hat eine Entfernung zum Sonnensystem von ungefähr 5.700 Lichtjahre.

Sorgfältige Beobachtungen im Jahr 2013 einer Gruppe Schweizer Astronomen haben gezeigt, dass 36 Sterne innerhalb von NGC 3677 einer neuen und unbekannten Klasse von veränderlichen Sternen angehören. Diese Sterne rotieren sehr schnell und sind erst etwa 20 Millionen Jahre alt. Ihre Helligkeit schwankt nur leicht, etwa 0,1 Prozent in zwei bis 20 Stunden. NGC 3677 wurde im Jahr 1751 vom französischen Astronomen Nicolas Louis de Lacaille entdeckt. Mehr Informationen zu NGC 3677 der ESO sind hier zu finden.

Object description

NGC 3677- is a bright open star cluster in the constellation Centaurus. It contains about 100 stars, is classified as class I 1 p according to Trumpler, and has a distance to the solar system of about 5,700 light-years.

Careful observations in 2013 by a group of Swiss astronomers have shown that 36 stars within NGC 3677 belong to a new and unknown class of variable stars. These stars rotate very rapidly and are only about 20 million years old. Their brightness varies only slightly, about 0.1 percent in two to 20 hours.
