Description of object:

Messier 93 Messier 93 (NGC 2447) is a brighter open star cluster in the constellation aft deck of the ship. With an apparent diameter of nearly 25 arc minutes the cluster contains about 100 stars between 8th and 13th magnitude. The classification according to Trumpler is I 3 r.

Messier 93 is located at a distance of about 3,600 light years from the solar system. With an estimated age of only 100 million years it is one of the younger star clusters in our Galaxy. The star cluster was discovered on March 20, 1781 by Charles Messier.
