Description of object:

The Pleiades appear with an extension of about 2° about four times as large as the moon seen with the naked eye. With an apparent diameter of about 10 arc minutes and a brightness of 9m0 the stars hardly stand out from the background. The star cluster only attracts attention by its strong concentration.

The star cluster contains about 500 stars and is located about 4,000 light years away from the solar system. According to Trumpler the cluster is classified as class II 3m. The estimated age of the stars is about 350 million years. IC 2714 was discovered by James Dunlop.
