Object description: In the constellation Southern Crown (lat. Corona Australis) there is one of the nearest dark clouds with active star formation. The size of the dark cloud extends over 10 degrees in the sky, whereby new stars are only formed in the western, dense part. Starting from the central area around the RCrA molecular cloud with NGC 6729, the nebula appears to enlarge to the east like a plume of smoke. « Click here or the thumbnail image for a comparison with the size of the Moon More detailed images of this area have already been taken with focal lengths of 560 mm and 2350 mm. |
